Eifel Weekend 2026

The Purpose Behind the Ride

Not every trip is about distance or famous mountain passes. Sometimes, it's about gaining experience and preparing for what's ahead.

From April 24th to April 26th, six riders from De Natte Zwaluw headed to the Eifel. The trip was planned to give one rider her first real experience abroad, riding through elevation changes, endless corners, and her first hairpins. At the same time, another rider had just obtained his A2 licence, making this his first trip with a motorcycle capable of keeping up with the group.

What started as a training weekend quickly became another great adventure. Together, we enjoyed some of the Eifel's best roads while building confidence and experience for the challenges still to come.

With the French Alps and Mont Ventoux on the horizon, this trip proved to be the perfect preparation for the adventures ahead.

Trip Overview

  • Date: April 24 – April 26, 2026
  • Duration: 2 nights / 3 days
  • Riders: 6
  • Motorcycles: Mixed (Adventure & Sport Touring)
  • Starting point: Oudenbosch, The Netherlands
  • Destination: Eifel region, Germany
  • Total distance: ~850 km
  • Overnight stay: Papelhof

This trip was shorter than some of our previous adventures, but it proved that you don’t need a full week to experience what makes motorcycle travel so addictive.

Riding Into the Eifel

The first day started with a necessary stretch of highway from Oudenbosch towards Monschau.

Not the most exciting part but efficient.

From Monschau onwards, everything changed.

The roads became tighter, the elevation started to build, and the riding finally became what we were looking for. Flowing corners, quiet roads, and that feeling of being completely focused on the ride.

For a rider experiencing this for the first time, it was the perfect introduction:

  • Gradual elevation changes
  • Predictable corners
  • Enough challenge without being overwhelming

Exactly what the Eifel is known for.

Day 2  The Real Riding Day

The second day was what this trip was all about.

A 250 km loop through the Eifel, combining everything that makes this region special:

  • Tight and flowing corners
  • Elevation changes
  • Quiet countryside roads
  • Sections along the Mosel river

We passed through Cochem, where we stopped for a coffee break.
A perfect moment to slow down, take in the view, and reflect on how quickly confidence builds when the roads are right.

For our first-time rider, this day marked a turning point:

  • First real cornering rhythm
  • First proper elevation riding
  • First hairpin experiences

Confidence grew with every kilometer.

Ending the Day Right

After a full day of riding, we finished the evening at:

Landgasthaus Janshen

A place we would absolutely recommend:

  • Great chicken dishes
  • Fries and vegetables included
  • Good pricing
  • Relaxed, welcoming atmosphere

Exactly what you want after a long day on the bike: good food, a table full of stories, and a group that’s still buzzing from the ride.

Overnight Stay Papelhof

We stayed at Papelhof, a place we’ve visited before.

  • Price: ~€50 per person per night (including breakfast)
  • Rooms: Older, but clean and well maintained
  • Motorcycle friendly: Yes
  • Atmosphere: Simple, relaxed, and perfect for short stays

For a 2-day trip, it’s exactly what you need.
For longer stays, you might want something more modern but for weekends like this, it works perfectly.

The Ride Back

The final day started the same way it ended:
enjoying the Eifel’s backroads on the way back towards Monschau.

After that, it was back onto the highway towards Oudenbosch.

That mix of “one last good stretch of riding” followed by the ride home always hits the same:
you’re tired, satisfied, and already thinking about the next trip.

Why the Eifel Works So Wel

The Eifel remains one of the best regions for motorcycle trips especially for riders who are stepping into multi-day touring.

It offers:

  • Enough challenge to improve your riding
  • Roads that are fun but not overwhelming
  • Short travel distance from the Netherlands
  • A perfect balance between riding and relaxing

For us, it proved once again:
you don’t need the Alps to have an unforgettable trip.

Final Thoughts

This trip had a clear purpose and delivered on every level.

From first-time experiences in elevation and hairpins to simply enjoying good roads with a great group it was the perfect reminder of what motorcycle travel is really about.

And maybe most importantly:
it proved that the next step the Alps is well within reach.
